Heather Kreier is in her fifth season as Pacific Lutheran
University's men's and women's cross country head coach after
starting in 2006.
Prior to becoming the head coach, Heather served two seasons as
the assistant cross country coach. She is also PLU's men's and
women's track and field head coach.
Kreier came to PLU in 2004 as an assistant track coach,
specializing in middle-distance events. She has a impressive high
school coaching background in cross country, swimming, and track
& field. Her most recent coaching positions were at Decatur
High School in Federal Way, where she was the head coach for boys
and girls cross country, boys and girls track & field, and boys
swimming (2003 Washington State 4A champions). She brings to her
coaching expertise an academic background in exercise physiology,
biomechanics, sports nutrition, and she is a health and fitness
expert. "My foundation philosophy is simple: seek and expect
individual improvement and excellence from student-athletes and the
wins will come."
Kreier earned her B.S. degree in Physical Education from the
University of Puget Sound in 1997. She is the owner of a health and
wellness program called "Fit 4 Life." She and her husband, Bret,
live in Spanaway with their two children, Porter and Amber.
Dan Haakenson is in his third season as a cross country assistant coach at Pacific Lutheran after starting in 2008. Haakenson, who is the throwing coach for the PLU track & field team, serves in an administrative role for cross country.
Haakenson competed as a thrower for four years at PLU, winning three conference championships in the discus and hammer. As a senior, he was recognized as an All-American in the hammer throw.
In the past three seasons he has coached five athletes to six national championships appearances.
Haakenson earned his bachelors degree from PLU in 2005 with a double major in English and Classics.
