A Lute Will Run in National Championship Race

For the first time since 2002, a Pacific Lutheran male athlete will compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

The national championship event is scheduled to being at noon local time at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is the meet host.

Sophomore Alan DenAdel becomes the first Lute male since Floyd Bangerter to represent PLU at the national meet. In 2004, Bethany De Vilbiss was the last PLU female to run at the NCAA Division III championship meet.

The national championship event is scheduled to being at noon local time at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is the meet host.

DenAdel (Bow, Wash. / Burlington-Edison HS) qualified for the national meet by virtue of a 12th-place finish at the West Region Championships held last Saturday morning in Claremont, Calif. DenAdel ran the 8000-meter course in a time of 25:49.9.

"Really exciting time to have a Lute man qualify to the cross country national championships," head coach Heather Kreier said. "As a sophomore, Alan will gain a ton of experience and the desire and drive to want to return every year thereafter.  Top 15 are All-American and we certainly will shoot for the stars.  (This is) a very exciting time to be a Lute."

The race conditions will provide a challenge for the 200-plus runners. Forecasts call for a daytime high of 44 with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
