Lutes Men and Women finish 14th at Sundogger Invite
SEATTLE - Pacific Lutheran Men finished 14th out of 21 teams in the college men's open division at the 19th Annual Sundodger Invitational cross country meet. The Women finished 14th out of 17 teams in the college women's open division on the Saturday morning race held at Lincoln Park.
The Lutes scored 393 team points to finish ahead of Northwest Conference foes Whitman and Puget Sound. Other conference school finishes included Linfield in seventh place, Whitworth in ninth and Lewis & Clark in 12th. The overall team winner was San Francisco State with 61 points, followed by Everett CC with 132 and British Columbia with 151.
Sophomore Alan DenAdel had a strong race for the Lutes, running near the front for the early portion before finally placing 20th in a time of 25:26.21. Junior Kolter Grigsby moved up into second spot on the men's team by placing 96th overall with a time of 26:36.67. Senior Sean Andrascik was PLU's third finisher, placing 121st with a time of 26:59.96. Other PLU scorers were senior Barrett Bollen, 137th in 27:24.04, and sophomore Kyle Smith, 141st in 27:31.17.
University of British Columbia won the event with 47 points, followed by Whitman from the Northwest Conference with 110 points. Of the six conference schools competing in the event, the Lutes finished fifth. Linfield (fifth), Whitworth (eighth) and Puget Sound (12th) finished ahead of PLU, while George Fox (16th) was behind the Lutes.
Katie Gebert led the Lutes for the second consecutive race, finishing 37th overall with a time of 23:09.70 over the 6000-meter course. Suzy Olsen and Rebecca Ford ran footstep-for-footstep during the race, Olsen placing 70th in a time of 23:52.49 and Ford finishing one spot back in 23:53.01. Rounding out the top five scorers were Jennifer Arbaugh, 121st in 24:49.95, and Erinn Kuest, 122nd in 24:51.91.
Other PLU finishers were the following: Erica Johnson, 126th, 25:04.08; Michelle Domini, 141st, 25:22.90; Allison Young, 142nd, 25:25.72; Maggie De La Vergne, 145, 25:41.38; and Alyssa Rowland, 149th, 26:00.69.
The Lutes will be back in action next Saturday when they compete at the Linfield Invitational at Willamette Mission State Park in Brooks, Ore. The course is the site of the Northwest Conference meet, so it will give the Lutes a good idea of what to expect when they race at the NWC Championships scheduled for Oct. 29.
