PLU Teams Finish Fourth at Willamette Meet
SALEM, Ore. - Both Pacific Lutheran cross country teams placed fourth in five-team races at the Willamette Grass Course Invitational held Friday afternoon in Bush's Pasture Park.
Host Willamette University was the winner in both race, with the Bearcats men taking the top five spots to finish with a perfect score of 15. Leo Castillo won the 7,085-meter course in a time of 22:43.86. Placing second was Linfield with 61, followed by Pacific with 95 and both PLU and George Fox with 102.
Leading the way for the PLU men for the second straight meet was frosh Alan DenAdel, who placed 14th overall in a time of 24:00.56. John Phillips ws 21st in 24:21.44, followed by Sean Andrascik, 25th in 24:46.83, Nathaniel Allen-Slaba, 32nd in 25:22.73, and Alex Martin, 36th in 25:45.24.
On the women's side, Willamette scored 22 points, led by the winning effort of Kimber Mattox. The Bearcats' star won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 19:03.41. UC Santa Cruz was second with 69 points, followed by Linfield with 75, PLU with 81 and Pacific with 117.
PLU sophomore Suzy Olsen, racing for the first time this season, finished seventh in a time of 20:09.19. Rounding out the top five for the Lutes women were Katie Gebert, 10th in 20:19.91, Eric Johnson, 21st in 20:47.31, Erinn Kuest, 26th in 21:01.43, and Allison Young, 28th in 21:20.21.
