Lutes Struggle at Puget Sound Invitational

LAKEWOOD - Running against more than half of their Northwest Conference opponents, Pacific Lutheran had a tough day Saturday at the Puget Sound Invitational cross country meet held at Fort Steilacoom Park.

Whitworth showed that it is a conference force in both the men's and women's division with a sweep at Saturday's race. On the women's side, Whitworth won with 36 points, followed by Whitman 52, Lewis & Clark 78, Linfield 85, Pacific Lutheran 131, Puget Sound 149 and Highline CC 222. The men's race went to Whitworth with 38 points, followed by Linfield 46, Whitman 83, Lewis & Clark 94, Puget Sound 126, Pacific Lutheran 135, Highline CC 196.

Suzy Olsen led the PLU women, placing 11th with a time of 23:36.63 over the 6000-meter course. Katie Gebert was 25th in 24:31.32, followed by Mary Wuest, 27th in 24:38.02, Synneva Hagen-Lillevik, 36th in 25:19.46, and Erica Johnson, 38th in 25:20.33.

John Phillips led the PLU men with a 14th place finish, clocing 27:38.06 over the 8000-meter course. Rounding out the PLU scorers were Sean Andrascik, 21st in 27:54.42, Orion Bras, 27th in 28:10.26, Justin Barth, 40th in 29:01.51, and Kolter Grigsby, 44th in 29:11.09.
