Olsen Leads PLU to Seventh at NWC Championships
BROOKS, Ore. - Suzy Olsen led Pacific Lutheran to a seventh-place finish in the women's portion of the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at Willamette Mission State Park.
Olsen earned second team all-conference recognition for the second straight year, this time finishing 14th with a time of 22:54.96 over the 6000-meter course. Katie Gebert was just out of all-conference recognition as she placed 17th with a time of 23:04.35.
Lewis & Clark scored 64 points, barely beating Willamette's 66 for first place in the team standings. Linfield was a close third with 74, and Whitman was also in the hunt with 77 points. Rounding out the rest of the team scoring were Puget Sound with 120, Whitworth 151, Pacific Lutheran 174, Pacific 205, and George Fox 225. PLU came into the meet ranked seventh, and that's right where it finished.
Illana Livstrom was the individual winner, closing 21:50.04 to win by more than 10 seconds over Whitworth's Joy Shufeldt, who clocked 22:00.44. Third place went to Willamette's Theresa Edwards in 22:01.61.
PLU finishers in addition to Olsen and Gebert were Jennifer Arbaugh in 43rd (24:02.75), Erinn Kuest in 55th (24:34.94), Erica Johnson in 56th (24:35.33), Alyssa Rowland in 60th (24:56.12), Becca Ford in 67th (25:19.82), Allison Young in 72nd (25:46.73), Maggie De La Vergne in 74th (25:50.53), and Michelle Domini in 77th (26:19.01).
