Pacific Tops PLU in Women's Tennis Action

TACOMA - Visiting Pacific swept doubles play and took the top four singles competitions to defeat Pacific Lutheran, 7-2, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.

The Lutes, now 0-2 for the season, picked up their only wins at fifth singles, where Deanna Ellmer beat Stephanie Velligas, 6-4, 6-2, and at sixth singles where Hailey Rile got the better of Kelsey Lack, 6-3, 6-1.

Cat Goya, Megan Yoshimoto and Rachel Mizuno were all double winners for the Boxers. Goya and Yoshimoto took a win at first doubles, 8-3, Goya won at first singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Yoshimoto was a 7-5, 6-4 winner at second singles. Mizuno teamed with Velligas to win 8-4 at second doubles, and she took a 6-2, 6-3 win at third singles.

PLU has three matches on tap next weekend, playing at George Fox on Friday and Willamette on Saturday in conference play before hosting Mills on Sunday.
