Lutes to Finish Season Against UPS

Caitlyn Hoerr

THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran hosts Puget Sound, Friday, 4 p.m.

LAST WEEK: The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team suffered two conference losses last weekend versus Oregon opponents Pacific and Willamette. The Friday matchup against Willamette ended in an 8-1 loss, bringing the Lutes' conference record to 1-13. The sole win of the afternoon was earned by No. 2 singles player, Ashley Coats, in a super tiebreaker against Willamette's Abby Funabiki. Saturday's match against Pacific ended in another 8-1 loss for the Lutes. The lone win for PLU was recorded by Jessica Wilson at the No. 5 singles spot, 6-0, 6-3.

LUTES WRAP IT UP: This weekend, the Lutes will conclude their season at home with a match against conference rival University of Puget Sound. After struggling throughout the season, the young Lutes are optimistic about their last match of the season and hope to end on a successful note. During the first faceoff between the two foes, the Loggers escaped with a 5-4 win. However, PLU's No. 2 singles player, Ashley Coats, was not at full strength because of a lingering sickness the week of the match. This contest, along with their 5-4 victory over George Fox, count as the team's closest matches of the season. The cross-town matchup will begin at 4 p.m. Friday on the PLU outdoor courts. In case of inclement weather, the match will be played at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
