PLU Women Finish Sixth at NWC Fall Classic
PORTLAND, Ore. - Whitney Hobbs shot a second-round 77 on Sunday but it wasn't enough to help Pacific Lutheran move up the team standings as the Lutes placed sixth at the NWC Fall Classic women's golf tournament that wrapped up today at Heron Lakes Golf Club.
The par 72, 5,813-yard Green Back Course at Heron Lakes was the tournament site.
George Fox won the team championship for the second straight year, shooting a 313-312 for a two-day total of 625, 13 strokes better than runner-up Whitman's 638 (320-318). Rounding out the team scores were Willamette 671 (342-329), Linfield 679 (340-339), Whitworth 681 (344-337), Pacific Lutheran 712 (357-355), Pacific 781 (403-378), and Puget Sound 884 (448-436). Lewis & Clark did not have a complete team.
George Fox also had the top two finishers, Megan McGrew taking medalist honors with a six-over-par 150 (74-76), followed by Kelsey Morrison at 152 (78-74). Whitman's Tate Head was third with a 155 (75-80).
Hobbs knocked nine strokes off her first-day score of 86 to finish with a two-round total of 163, good for a 10th-place tie. Julie Heffernan shot a 181 (89-92), Paige Henry a 182 (85-97), Kristina Norlin a 189 (97-92) and Karina Shelton a 193 (99-94) to round out the PLU scoring.
The fall season is now concluded, and the Lutes open spring play in early March.
