Women's Basketball Hosts Wisconsin-Stevens Point

FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME: Pacific Lutheran will have a difficult task on its hands this Wednesday night when it hosts the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers in a non-conference women's basketball game in Olson Auditorium. The game, set for a 6 p.m. start, is the final non-Northwest Conference game for the Lutes before they head into the remainder of their 14-game NWC slate.

POINTING TO THE POINTERS: Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 8-2 this season, is currently ranked No. 10 in the d3hoops.com Top 25 national poll. This talented and experienced team is led by 5-11 senior post Britta Petersen, who averages 14.6 points while shooting 54 percent from the field. She is also the team's top rebounder with 6.0 boards per contest. Sam Barber, a 5-9 sophomore guard, averages 10.2 points per game and hits 43 percent of her three-point shots while coming off the bench. Andrea Flease is an All-America point guard who averages 5.0 assists per game. UWSP shoots 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.

LUTES DROP TWO IN TEXAS: PLU dropped a pair of close contests during a pre-Christmas trip to Texas. They rallied from an early 17-point deficit to Texas Lutheran to take a second-half lead, only to see the Bulldogs come back to take a 78-70 victory. Mackenzie Bieker scored a career-high 17 points, including five three-point field goals, to lead Pacific Lutheran in scoring. The following night, the Lutes were 10-for-14 from behind the three-point line but still came out on the short end of a 65-62 decision to Shreiner University. Shelly Kilcup came off the bench to shoot 6-for-7 from three-point range on the way to tying her single-game collegiate high. She tallied 23 points in losses at Seattle Pacific and Chapman last year. Melissa Pixler shot 4-for-5 from long range in scoring 15 points and Samantha Potter added 10 points in support of Kilcup.

CONFERENCE PLAY RESUMES IN JANUARY: Pacific Lutheran returns to Northwest Conference action the first weekend in January with games at Whitworth (Jan. 7) and at Whitman (Jan. 8). PLU is 1-1 in the conference after beating Pacific and falling to defending champion George Fox during the first weekend in December.
