Track & Field Summer Camp Off to Strong Start

A total of 45 youngsters ranging in age from 6 to 18 years old are participating in the first-ever PLU Track & Field Summer Camp currently underway at the Pacific Lutheran University track. The camp started on Aug. 3 and ends on Aug. 6.
Lutes head coach Heather Kreier is excited about the number of participants given that this is the first year for the camp. "The date we chose is toward the end of the traditional summer track season, and we'll help the campers build and refine skills leading into the fall. I expect the numbers to increase in the future," she said, adding that her hope is to have enough future campers to run an actual meet on the final day.
Kreier, her staff, and several current and former Pacific Lutheran athletes, are training the campers in various aspects of multiple events. Among the camp teachers are former PLU All-Americans Taylor Hacker and Faven Araya.
"We have all of the track and field events at the camp," Kreier said, listing off sprints, distance, throws, and jumps. "Our camp lets kids explore other interests and possibilities in other events."
The PLU track & field camp is the final in a series of summer camps held by various Lutes athletic teams, including football, women's soccer, softball and volleyball.
