Pacific Lutheran swept to a pair of easy victories over visiting Linfield College in Northwest Conference swimming action Friday night at the PLU pool.
Kina Ackerman won three events as the PLU women defeated Linfield, 134-71. Ackerman won the 1000 freestyle in 11:30.33, the 200 individual medley in 2:20.72, and the 500 freestyle in 5:35.70.
Toni Castillo had a pair of event victories, taking the 50 freestyle in 25.60 and the 100 freestyle in 55.04.
PLU also won both relays, taking the 400 medley in 4:12.68 and the 400 freestyle in 3:49.80. The medley relay time was faster than the time that the Lutes swam at last season's conference meet.
Patrick Opie picked up victories in both of the distance freestyle events to lead Pacific Lutheran past Linfield, 130-75, in men's action.
After the Lutes opened with a winning 3:45.62 in the 400 medley relay, Opie hit the water to win the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:30.47. Later in the meet, he added a victory in the 500 freestyle by clocking 5:03.70.
PLU ended up with six event wins compared to five for the Wildcats, but used its depth to pull away from the visitors.
"We had a solid meet with some great early season swims, including a lot of PRs, especially from the freshmen," head coach Matt Sellman said. "(The swimmers) are seeing the results of tremendously improved training and confidence."
