PLU Men Remain Unbeaten, Boxers Swept Aside

PARKLAND - The Pacific Lutheran men remained unbeaten this season in dual meets and the Lutes women got back on the winning side of the ledger Saturday afternoon as PLU swept a Northwest Conference swimming dual from the visiting Pacific Boxers at the PLU Pool.

The PLU men improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference with a 122-81 victory, while one day after suffering a defeat to Lewis & Clark, the Lutes women improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference with a 107-97 triumph over the Boxers.

For the second consecutive day, Kevin Jones won two events to pace Pacific Lutheran. Jones won the 200 freestyle (1:49.37) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.33) in addition to swimming the anchor leg on PLU's winning 200 freestyle relay (1:34.13). Chase Mesford also won a pair of events, taking the 50 freestyle (22.69) and 100 freestyle (49.62).

Other individual event winners for the Lutes men were Alex Limoges in the 100 backstroke (55.18) and Rayan Carter in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.96). Limoges, Carter, Matthew Kim and Mesford combined to win the 200 medley relay (1:41.01) to start the meet.

Pacific's individual event winners were Michael Simmonds in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.85), Michael Hargitt in the 400 individual medley (4:26.41) and Alejandro Contreras in the 100 butterfly (57.19).

Lutes women winning events were Kina Ackerman in the 1000 freestyle (11:23.38), Casey Jackson in the 50 freestyle (26.33), Elizabeth Althauser in the 100 freestyle (57.08) and Darla Avis in the 100 backstroke (1:03.40). PLU's team consisting of Avis, Gina Wittman, Jackson and Althauser opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:56.12).

Pacific's Allison Clark won three events and Laura Ross took two. Clark was victorious in the 200 freestyle (2:03.50), 100 breaststroke (1:06.86) and 400 individual medley (4:53.73), and Ross took the 100 butterfly (1:02.81) and 500 freestyle (5:33.12). Pacific closed the women's portion of the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay (1:02.96).

Pacific Lutheran has three conference dual meets remaining on its schedule, all at home, starting next Friday with a 6 p.m. competition against the Whitman Missionaries. PLU will swim against the Whitworth Pirates at 1 p.m. Saturday.
