Sellman Earns National Coaches Award of Excellence

Pacific Lutheran swimming head coach Matt Sellman has been awarded the 2010 American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Award of Excellence for his accomplishments last season while head coach at University of Mary Washington. Sellman received the award for the second time.

Each year, the ASCA recognizes coaches whose swimmers earn a top eight finish at one of several USA national-level championships, including the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.

Sellman, who swam at Pacific Lutheran before earning his bachelor's degree from the school in 1996, came back to PLU from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., where he served as head swim coach and aquatics director from 2007 to the present. He led the Eagles to six Capital Athletic Conference championships in three seasons. He coached 44 UMW swimmers to NCAA Division III qualifying standards, and nine of his athletes earned All-America honors.
