Jackson Takes First in NWI Women's 100 Back

PORTLAND, Ore. - Casey Jackson took first place in the women's 100 backstroke to pace Pacific Lutheran on Sunday's final day of the Northwest Invitational swimming meet hosted by Lewis & Clark College.

Jackson wrapped up a strong meet by winning the event with a time of 1:01.03, more than one-half second ahead of Whitworth's Jennifer Benson, second with a time of 1:01.67. On Saturday, she placed fourth in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 200 individual medley.

The Pacific Lutheran women placed fourth out of 10 teams in the event. Puget Sound swam away from the competition with 801 points, followed by Whitworth with 607, Whitman 398, PLU 312, Linfield 295, Lewis & Clark 199, Cal State-East Bay 192, Willamette 190, Pacific 156 and College of Idaho 33.

On the men's side, Whitworth scored 647 to hold off Puget Sound, second with 628 points. Whitman scored 533, followed by PLU with 330.5, Linfield 294, Pacific 259.5, Lewis & Clark 239, College of Idaho 226 and Willamette 21.

The Lute women had a pair of top-eight finishers in two different events. In the 400 individual medley, Kasey Dorcas placed sixth (5:04.53) and Shelby Allman was eighth (5:21.63), and in the 1650 freestyle, Elizabeth Althauser finished fourth (19:05.96) and Courtney Korwal was eighth (19:27.73). Jessie Klauder ended up in seventh place in the 200 breaststroke (2:41.73).

Alex Limoges capped off an excellent meet with strong performances in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke finals. Limoges, second in the 200 backstroke on Saturday, placed fourth in the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.08 and followed that up by finishing second in the 100 backstroke in 56.43.

Jacob Nord finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (22.56), Gary Rempe was seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:53.86) and John Pedack was eighth in the 1650 freestyle (19:04.46). The Lutes also placed fourth in both the 200 medley relay (1:42.28) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.60).
