Stacey Hagensen Selected as NWC Woman of the Year
SEATTLE, Wash. - The Northwest Conference has selected Stacey Hagensen from Pacific Lutheran University as the NWC nominee for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Hagensen was selected from an outstanding pool of student-athletes considered for this conference nomination. The other nominees included Keisha Gordon, a basketball player from George Fox University, Jenele Peterson, a basketball player from Whitman College, and Stephanie Skelly, a soccer player from Willamette University.
Hagensen was a four-year member of the Lutes softball team, earning multiple personal awards as well as leading PLU to its first NCAA title in softball earlier this year. The senior from Bellevue, Wash., earned the 2012 Division III Honda Award, 2012 Division III Softball Championships Most Outstanding Player, second team All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, and was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2011 and 2012. She also earned the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III First Team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
She has also been involved in numerous campus activities throughout her four years at PLU including Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative, student-athlete mentor, math tutor, residence hall president, ASPLU bookkeeper, orientation guide, and women's Bible study leader.
Hagensen's personal statement reflected the lessons she learned from her involvement while at PLU. "It has shown me how important it is to be involved in others' lives and have them share, encourage, and teach me," said Hagensen.
Hagensen graduated with majors in economics and mathematics.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award, which will be announced in Indianapolis on Oct. 14, 2012, honors a graduating student-athlete who has proven herself throughout her collegiate careers in academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership.
