Weeklys Return to PLU for Softball Alumni Game
Ralph and Karen Weekly, co-head coaches at the University of Tennessee and major players in the growth of Lutes softball, returned to Pacific Lutheran University for the annual alumni game on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The Weeklys have led the University of Tennessee fastpitch program to national prominence in their 10 years as co-head coaches. Their teams have made four NCAA Division I Women's College World Series appearances, three times finishing third and once placing second.
Ralph Weekly served as Pacific Lutheran's head coach from 1986-94, leading the Lutes to two NAIA national titles in three championship game appearances. Karen was an outstanding shortstop on several of Ralph's early PLU teams.
"Ralph and Karen have remained very interested in Pacific Lutheran softball and in the entire athletic program in general," PLU head softball coach Erin Van Nostrand said. "It was great having them here to be a part of this weekend and to share with the current and former players."
The Weeklys left PLU to coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga for five seasons before moving on to their current successful tenure coaching the Lady Vols.
