Lutes Split Final Series, Prepare For Rematch In Playoffs
The Pacific Lutheran University softball team split the final Northwest Conference twinbill of the 2011 season against the Whitworth Pirates on Tuesday, winning 6-4 in the first game and losing 5-2 in the second. The games were a preview of this weekend's opening round of the NWC tournament.
In the first game, the Lutes came out on top with a 6-4 win that took eight innings to finish. The second game of the doubleheader saw the Pirates take the the 5-2 victory for their first win over the Lutes this season in the four games the teams played.
The Lutes and Pirates will be meeting again this Friday in the first round of the inaugural NWC tournament. Hosted by eight-time defending champion Linfield College, the tournament will have Linfield play Willamette University in the 1-4 game and PLU and Whitworth square off in the 2-3 matchup. The game will be played at 1:30 p.m.
