Smith Named to Rowing All-America Second Team

Abby Smith, the stroke on the women's varsity 4 boat that placed third at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on May 1, has earned 2011 Pocock All-America Second Team honors.

Smith, who also occupies the six seat on the Lutes' women's varsity 8, was one of nine rowers named to the second team, and one of 18 Division III rowers nationwide, honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

The junior out of Vashon High School becomes the seventh PLU female rower to earn All-America recognition since 2004.

"I look forward to what she can bring to the leadership in the women's program her next and final season as a Lute," PLU head coach Tone Lawver said.
