PLU Men's Lightweight Four Wins WIRA Silver
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - In recent years, Pacific Lutheran has built a reputation for success in men's lightweight four rowing. That tradition remains alive and well after the Lutes' lightweight four placed second in the grand final on Sunday at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships on nearby Lake Natoma.
The Lutes picked up the silver medal by clocking 7:12.3, one spot behind Sacramento State, which finished first in a time of 7:09.0. Members of PLU's lightweight four are Chad Hall, Sam Whedon, Bryan Pascoe, Stephen Strom and coxswain Natalie Journey.
The lightweight four wasn't the only PLU boat in a grand final on Sunday as the men's varsity four placed seventh, clocking 7:37.5. Rowing for the Lutes were Jake Huntington, Mark Christensen, Cullen Stafford, Steven Rystrom and coxswain Nicole Fast.
One other PLU boat was in a Sunday final, the men's varsity eight placing second in the third final in a time of 6:55.9.
