Three Women's Boats Reach WIRA Grand Finals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A trio of Pacific Lutheran women's boats advanced to the grand finals in their events in Saturday's first day of competition at the WIRA Champions being held at nearby Lake Natoma.

The women's pair of Kat Jenkins and Amber Iverson, which finished third at last year's event, won their heat and advanced to the grand final with the second best qualifying time of 8:19.5, just behind Lewis & Clark, which won the other heat in a time of 8:19.0.

The women's varsity four placed third in its heat in a time of 7:49.2 to move to Sunday's grand final, and the women's lightweight four finished second in its prelim in a time of 8:18.1 to advance.

The remainder of the PLU entries fell into the consolation (petite) finals on Sunday. The men's pair already held its petite final with the Lutes placing third (8:04.6) in a race won by UC Santa Barbara.
