DenAdel Places 209th at National Championships
WINNECONNE, Wis. - Battling a tight back for much of the race, Alan DenAdel placed 209th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships held Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club.
DenAdel, a sophomore from Bow, finished the 8000-meter course in a time of 26:00.37. He has suffered from a back issues for most of the season, and temperatures in the low 40s exacerbated his condition, according to PLU head coach Heather Kreier.
"He now knows what he has to do to better prepare" for national competition, Kreier said. She added that DenAdel was the 11th West Region runner to cross the finish line, improving by one on his regional meet finish of a week ago. Of those regional runners to finish ahead of DenAdel, six are seniors. "It should make for an interesting 2012 season," Kreier said.
DenAdel is the first PLU male runner to compete at the Division III national meet since Floyd Bangerter ran at the 2002 championships. DenAdel's 209th-place finish is nearly identical to Bangerter's 205th-place performance that year.
