DenAdel Finishes Fourth at NWC Cross Country Meet
BROOKS, Ore. - Alan DenAdel crossed the line in fourth place to lead the Pacific Lutheran men to a seventh-place finish at the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at Willamette Mission State Park.
Pacific Lutheran went into the meet ranked seventh in the conference but hoped for a strong race and a better finish - maybe even in the top four for the first time in over a decade - but it ended up right where it was expected to. The men's team championship chase, also as expected, came down to a hotly contested clash between Whitworth and Willamette.
Whitworth won its second straight NWC men's cross country crown and its third in the last four years, scoring 45 points to nip Willamette, which had 49 points. Rounding out the team scoring were Linfield 84, Lewis & Clark 124, Pacific 138, Whitman 145, Pacific Lutheran 182, Puget Sound 189, and George Fox 208.
In finishing fourth in a time of 25:30.93 over the 8000-meter course, DenAdel became the first PLU male runner to place in the top five at the NWC championship meet since Ryan Reed finished second in 2001.
Willamette's Leo Castillo successfully defended his title, easily winning in a time of 25:02.52. Linfield's Scott Gage was second in 25:21.74, followed by Whitworth's Trevor Berrian in 25:26.33.
Besides DenAdel, the PLU finishers were Sean Andrascik in 35th (26:44.68), Barrett Bollen in 49th (27:22.15), Kolter Grigsby in 51st (27:32.52), Alex Martin in 57th (27:29.84), Nathan Brewster in 69th (28:02.25), Kyle Smith in 71st (28:05.78), and Eric Herde in 80th (29:13.27).
The Lutes take two weeks off before racing at the NWC West Regional Championships in Claremont, Calif.
