New Pacific Lutheran University Track Dedicated

Led by President Loren Anderson, a crowd numbering more than 100 turned out on last Friday morning to dedicate the new Pacific Lutheran University track.

The event was held in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend.

Dr. Anderson was the emcee for the ceremony and also officially dedicated the track following a litany of thanksgiving presented by individuals associated with various groups that will use the track.

Current track & field coach Heather Kreier and former track & field coach Brad Moore, who later that day was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame, participated in the event, as did current student athletes Barrett Bollen and Madison Sehlke, all representing the athletic purpose of the track. Amber Dehne Baillon represented LuteFit and the community fitness perspective, while Melanie Deane and Johanna Muller, PLU Relay for Life student coordinators, connected the track to the Relay for Life event that annually draws hundreds of PLU students in a fight against cancer.

The "ribbon cutting" ceremony was unique - instead of a pair of scissors cutting a ribbon, student athletes Katie Jahnsen and Davey Fisher ran through a finish-line tape held by Dr. Anderson and Laurie Turner, PLU director of athletics.

Campus pastor Dennis Sepper gave the benediction.
