TACOMA – Pacific spoiled the 2014 home opener for Pacific Lutheran, sweeping the Lutes for a 9-0 Northwest Conference men's tennis victory Friday afternoon at Sprinker Recreation Center.
The loss drops Pacific Lutheran's record to 0-3 to start the season, both overall and in Northwest Conference play, while Pacific improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Lutes get back at it Saturday afternoon, hosting Willamette in a conference match at 1 p.m. at Sprinker.
Sam Stadter put together the strongest performance of the night for Pacific Lutheran, pushing Troy Zuroske to three sets in the No. 2 match. Stadter won the first set 6-3 before Zuroske battled back with a 6-3 win of his own before closing out the match with a 6-4 win.
Jake Yannello pushed Brennan Faith to extra points in the first set of the No. 3 match before falling 7-5. Faith wrapped up the match victory in the next set with a 6-3 win. The closest doubles matchup of the day came in the No. 3 slot, where James Okubo and Stadter pushed Lorne Bulling and Clark Wininger to 8-6.
