Lutes Make it a Season Sweep With Win at Puget Sound

Pacific Lutheran made it a season sweep, beating Puget Sound by a 7-2 score in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match played Friday afternoon at Sprinker Tennis Center.

With the victory, PLU's 43rd straight over the Puget Sound, the Lutes improved their season record to 9-5 and their NWC mark to 7-1. They also picked up a team point in the conference standings, moving a step closer to a NWC postseason tournament berth.

The Lutes got doubles wins from the teams of Sam Angel and Luke Olson, who took an 8-2 victory at No. 2, and from Jake Yannello and Mitch Yannello, who won 8-0 at No. 3.

Olson won a three-set battle at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, and Angel picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles. The Yannello cousins also won their singles matches, Mitch taking a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 4 and Jake winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. Taylor Dickey was the other winner with a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles.

Puget Sound's only wins came at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.

PLU is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it plays Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.
