PLU Men's Tennis Finish Spring Break Trip With Win

Taylor Dickey

LA MIRADA, Calif. - Pacific Lutheran closed its 2013 Spring Break tour of Southern California with a 7-2 non-conference men's tennis victory over host Biola on Wednesday.

The Lutes finished the trip with two wins and three losses and are now 8-5 for the season. Biola is 2-12 after taking the defeat.

PLU opened with a sweep of the double matches and carried the momentum to the victory.

Jason Bower and Taylor Dickey took an 8-6 win in the featured doubles contest, and Luke Olson and Sam Angel followed by beating their opponents by an 8-0 count. The Yannello cousins, Mitch and Jake, won at third doubles, 8-3.

The singles winners for the Lutes were Olson by a 6-3, 6-4 score at No. 2, Mitch Yannello, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 4, Dickey, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Jake Yannello, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

"This was a great way to end our spring break trip. The guys responded well and bounced back from a couple tough losses, and I'm very proud of the way they came together, rallied and ended the break with a strong win," PLU head coach Rocky Poulin said.

"Luke Olson and the Yannello cousins put together some great victories in singles, and we came out of doubles up 3-0 with great momentum going into singles play. We feel strong coming back home and continuing conference play and the home stretch to postseason."
