ORANGE, Calif. - Pacific Lutheran ran into a tough Chapman men's tennis team on Sunday and dropped an 8-1 non-conference decision to the Panthers.
Only freshman Jake Yannello, playing at sixth singles, picked up a victory for PLU. He defeated Zach Resnick, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Yannello, playing with his cousin Mitch Yannello, had a close contest at third doubles, but the PLU duo ended up losing 8-6 to Eric Wilson and Resnick.
Taylor Dickey, playing fifth singles, took opponent Chris Williams into a third set tiebreaker before finally falling by a 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (13-11) score.
"Chapman had many players that were just a little more consistent than us. We are getting great lessons and learning a lot," PLU head coach Rocky Poulin said. The Panthers are ranked No. 14 in the West Region of Division III men's tennis.
The Lutes, now 7-4, return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, when they face Occidental College.
