PLU Netters Knocked Out of Singles Winners Bracket

WALLA WALLA - While official results have not yet been posted, it is known that no Pacific Lutheran men's tennis player has advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA / ITA Men's Pacific Northwest Fall Championships being hosted by Whitman College.

Pacific Lutheran's first round winners were Reed Gunstone over Paxton Magaway from George Fox, Spencer Herron over Micah Roos from Linfield, and Taylor Dickey over Ben Hamming from Whitworth.

Results available at the time this story was posted (10 p.m.) showed all three losing in the second round of singles. Gunstone fell to Whitman's Colton Malesovas 6-2, 6-1, and Herron lost to Whitman's Sam Sadeghi 6-0, 6-2. Dickey, seeded ninth, fell in an upset to Willamette's Jack Schreiber 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).

Another PLU player, Daniel Cotton, lost in the first round to Whitman's James Rivers, 6-2, 6-1. Neal Berg and Sam Angel also lost their opening matches.

If it seems that there are a lot of Whitman names in that brief summary, it's not surprising. Of the 16 players still alive in the singles winners bracket, 10 of them come from the host school.

The tournament continues on Sunday and concludes on Monday.
