PLU Duo Loses at ITA Nationals

MOBILE, Ala. - Joel Trudel and Justin Peterson of Pacific Lutheran saw their trip to the 2009 ITA National Small College Championships come to an abrupt end during Wednesday's Division III doubles play-in round.

The PLU duo dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Brad Fenter & Nick Kreines from the University of Texas-Tyler. Fenter and Kreines advance into the eight-team doubles bracket. "We didn't play as well as we did at regionals," said PLU head coach Craig Hamilton. "They (Fenter and Kreines) were a solid team, but beatable."

Trudel and Peterson had advanced to the ITA national tournament by defeating Whitman's Matt Solomon and Jeffrey Tolman, 6-3, 7-5, for the ITA Northwest doubles title on Sept. 28 in Walla Walla. By virtue of winning the regional championship, Trudel and Peterson have earned 2009-10 All-America honors.
