PLU Doubles Duo Advances to Final

WALLA WALLA - It will be a battle of the top two seeds in men's doubles on Monday when Pacific Lutheran's Justin Peterson and Joel Trudel go for the title at the 2009 ITA Northwest Regionals tennis tournament being hosted by Whitman College.

Peterson and Trudel, both seniors, took an 8-4 victory over Whitman's Chris Bailey and Jasper Follows in the semifinals and will meet another Whitman duo, Matt Solomon and Jeffrey Tolman, in the championship match. Solomon and Tolman are the top seed in the doubles event, followed by Peterson and Trudel at No. 2.

In singles action, No. 2-seed Trudel was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Tolman, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Scott Sheldon and freshman Taylor Dickey both advanced to the consolation semifinals where they were to play each other on Monday morning. Both players instead returned to the PLU campus to attend their Monday classes.

The tournament, which started on Saturday, ends on Monday.
