Lutes Improve to 7-2 With Win Over Loggers
TACOMA - Pacific Lutheran improved its 2010 dual match record to 7-2 on Wednesday as it defeated host Puget Sound, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match played at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
Joel Trudel, Justin Peterson and Taylor Dickey all won their singles and doubles matches as the Lutes defeated the Loggers for the 37th consecutive time dating back to the 1992 season.
Trudel and Peterson, ranked No. 12 in Division III men's doubles, improved their season record to 9-0 with an 8-4 victory over Mike Cutter and Nick Kelley at No. 1 doubles. Trudel later came back to win his No. 1 singles match, defeating Sam Finkleman, 6-1, 6-2. Peterson was victorious at No. 2 singles, beating Cutter by a 6-1, 6-2 count.
Dickey teamed up with Brent Smoots at No. 2 doubles to beat Brian Burger and George Murphy, 8-5, and Dickey later was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Alex Harrison at No. 4 singles.
The Lutes' final team point came in the No. 3 singles match where Scott Sheldon defeated Kelley, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).
Pacific Lutheran returns to Northwest Conference action, and to its home courts, when it hosts the Linfield Wildcats at 3 p.m. Friday.
