Kearns, Noll Earn NWC Weekly Honors
Senior forward Chad Kearns and junior defender Greg Noll earned this week's Northwest Conference Offensive and Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. It is the second time for each this season receiving the honor.
Kearns, the 2010 NWC Offensive Player of the Year, tallied two goals and one assist in each match as the Lutes beat Pacific 6-0 and George Fox 3-0 on the road. The GFU win assured PLU of a NCAA postseason berth and at least a share of the NWC title. Chad now has 13 goals this season, second in the conference behind teammate Spencer Augustin, and with 41 career goals moves into third place on the all-time PLU list.
Noll played stellar defense in the middle of the back line as PLU shut out Pacific (6-0) and George Fox (3-0) in road matches. PLU limited Pacific and GFU to a total of eight shots on goal. Noll played 168 of 180 minutes over the two games, anchoring the defense and sealing the NWC crown for PLU.
The Lutes take on Tacoma rivals the University of Puget Sound Loggers this weekend in the regular season finale. The match is on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the PLU soccer field.
