Successful Midwest Trip Ends With 7-1 Victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Pacific Lutheran put an emphatic finish on a successful season-opening trip to Wisconsin, thumping St. Norbert by a 7-1 score in a non-conference men's soccer match played Monday afternoon at Carroll University.

Senior forwards Spencer Augustin and Chad Kearns both scored a pair of goals, sophomore forward Derek Johnson added a goal and two assists, and senior midfielder Surafel Wodajo notched two assists as the Lutes improved their season record to 3-0-0.

Augustin scored an unassisted goal 6:34 into the match and the Lutes never looked back, building a 4-0 halftime lead as Kearns, Augustin and senior midfielder Alex Schisel followed with goals. Netting second-half tallies were Kearns, junior forward Lucas McCallum and Johnson.

Sophomore keeper Joe Rayburn added 45 shutout minutes to his season total, with Sam Watkins playing in the second half. St. Norbert's only goal came in the second half on a penalty kick.

A total of 21 PLU players saw action in this match, with nine of the 11 starters playing half of the match or less. The Lutes took 23 total shots, 14 on goal, to four shots, two on goal, for the Wisconsin school.

PLU opens the home portion of its 2011 schedule at 2:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts Montclair State (N.J.).
