HILLSBORO, Ore. -The Pacific Lutheran University men's golf team is the team to beat heading into the 2017-2018 season, earning the top spot in the Northwest Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday.
The defending NWC Champion Lutes collected 66 points and five of the eight first place votes, enjoying a six-point lead over second ranked Willamette University (60 points and three first place votes). Whitworth University is third with 51 points and the remaining first place nod followed by George Fox University in fourth (39 points).
Linfield College was picked fifth (36 points) followed by the University of Puget Sound in sixth (29 points), Lewis & Clark College in seventh (28 points), Whitman College in eighth (13 points), and Pacific University in ninth (11 points).
The Lutes return four golfers from last year's squad that won the NWC title and placed 18th at the NCAA Division III Championships, PLU's best finish in program history. Among the returners is reigning NWC Player of the Year Mitchell Baldridge who along with the rest of the Lutes will tee off the season on Sunday at the 2017 Collegiate Open held at the Home Course in DuPont, Washington.
