Lutes Place Second in Spring Golf Opener

FIRCREST - Dustin Hegge and Scott Zhang tied for fourth place and Pacific Lutheran finished second in the team standings at Friday's conclusion of the UPS Logger Invitational held at Fircrest Golf Course.

Led by medalist Adam Bean's 76-75 - 151, Puget Sound notched rounds of 307 and 306 for a 36-hole total of 613, five strokes better than Pacific Lutheran. The Lutes had identical rounds of 309 for their 618 total. North Idaho College was third with 630 and Whitworth brought up the rear with a 643.

Hegge and Zhang both shots 79-75 - 154, one stroke ahead of teammate Daron Casey, who tied for seventh with a 76-79 - 155. Tim Livermore, in second place with a first-day 75, ended up tied for ninth with a 75-81 - 156. Other PLU scores showed Sam Hodge with 84-80- 164, and Auston Hilkin 82-84 - 166.

PLU is right back at it again on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts the Lutes Invitational at The Home Course in Dupont. A total of eight teams are entered in the event. Northwest Conference schools joining the Lutes are Puget Sound, Whitworth, Linfield, Pacific, Willamette and George Fox, while North Idaho will stay in town and join the eight-team field.
