Hegge Takes First Round Lead at Whitworth Invitational

SPOKANE - Dustin Hegge fired a four-under-par 68 on Sunday to take a three-stroke lead after the first round lead of the Whitworth Invitational golf tournament at Spokane Country Club.

Hegge, a sophomore, helped the Lutes card a 297, one stroke off the pace set by co-leaders Puget Sound and Whitworth. North Idaho College was in fourth with a 299, followed by Willamette at 306, Linfield and Whitman at 309, George Fox at 339 and Pacific at 343.

"The guys played great today," PLU head coach Kris Swanson said.

Trailing Hegge was Whitworth's Jesse Salzwedel with a 71, while three other golfers came in at even-par 72.

Rounding out the PLU scorers were Auston Hilkin with a 74, Tim Livermore 77, Scott Zhang 78, and Daron Casey and Sam Hodge 81.

The tournament concludes with another 18 holes on Monday.
