Steve Dickerson enters his fifth season as men's basketball head coach after being named to the position on May 9, 2006. Dickerson had served as an assistant coach and associate head coach at PLU the previous three seasons.

Prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest, Dickerson was a high school coach in the Columbus, Ohio, area for 33 years. He was a head basketball coach for 19 years, with more than 200 wins including a "big school" state final appearance, a regional title, two district championships, nine sectional titles, four league championships, and runner-up state, regional and district awards. Dickerson was chosen "Coach of the Year" four times. In 1994, he was elected president of the largest basketball coaches association in the state of Ohio, and in 2003 received the prestigious Sportsmanship and Ethics Award from the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He was also a high school assistant coach for 10 years. Those teams produced a district championship, three sectional titles and one league title, and was a district runner-up once. He has also been a high school baseball head coach and a football defensive coordinator. His baseball teams won a district championship, four league titles, three sectional crowns and once finished as the district runner-up.

Dickerson graduated from Washington State University in 1969 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He has done post-graduate work at Ohio State University, Capital University, Xavier University, Ashland University and Drake University. He and his wife, Christine, live in Dupont.

Brian Kovacevich
Title:Assistant Head Coach

Brian Kovacevich is in his fifth year as a Pacific Lutheran men's basketball assistant coach. Kovacevich is the recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator and also works with player development and PLU basketball camps organization.

Prior to joining the PLU staff, Kovacevich helped coach the Puget Sound Loggers to an NCAA Division III basketball national tournament appearance. The Fife High School graduate played at Centralia College, the University of Washington and in the California Summer Professional League. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Event Management from Central Washington University, and a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Seattle Pacific University.

He currently lives in Puyallup with his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Maya.



Del Sandberg
Title:Assistant Coach

Del Sandberg returned to the Pacific Lutheran men's basketball program in 2009 after spending the previous season as interim men's basketball head coach at Grays Harbor Community College. Prior to the 2008 season, Sandberg coached at Capital High School, Black Hills High School and Rainier High School.

Coach Sandberg teaches at Marshall Middle School in the Olympia School District. He resides in Olympia with his wife Julie. They have a son, Jared, and twin daughters, Jill and Sabrina.



Dan Karp
Title:Student Assistant Coach

Dan Karp is in his second season as a Pacific Lutheran men's basketball student assistant coach. Karp was a member of the 2008-09 team, but recurring knee injuries have brought about an end to his playing career.
