PLU Men Fifth at NWC Golf Tournament

KENNEWICK - Pacific Lutheran fired a first-day total of 319 on Saturday and holds down fifth place at the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Championships at Canyon Lakes Golf Course.

Linfield is in first place after Saturday's 18 holes with a 305, two strokes better than Whitworth and six better than Puget Sound. Those three teams are in the hunt for the overall NWC championship and with it the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III national tournament. Rounding out the team scoring were Whitman with 316, PLUK 319, George Fox and Pacific 320, and Willamette 355. Lewis & Clark has an incomplete team score.

Linfield's Alex Fitch carded a 70, two strokes better than Pacific's Max Bonk and Puget Sound's Greg Kirkpatrick, to hold down the individual lead.

Frosh Dustin Hegge and junior Scott Zhang both had a 79 to lead the Lutes, followed by Auston Hilkin with 80, Daron Casey with 81, Zack Kitchen 89 and Chris Guiducci 91.
