Lutes Have Work to Do at NWC North Tourney
LAKEWOOD - Both Pacific Lutheran golf teams find themselves trailing the pack after Sunday's first day of the NWC North tournament being held at Oakbrook Country Club.
In the women's event, Whitworth leads after the first 18 holes with a 343, followed by Whitman at 347, Puget Sound 358 and Pacific Lutheran 384. Rachel Erickson carded the best PLU score, a 93, and currently sits in 12th place. Rounding out the PLU scores were Kara Herzog 95, Bethany Gray 96, Karina Shelton 100, Kindra Stamps 102, and Caitlin Malone and Kelsey Spears 104. Whitman's Taylor Head is the leader with an opening-round 80.
On the men's side, Puget Sound and Whitworth are tied at 305, followed by Whitman at 307 and PLU at 316. Kyle Spitzer fired an opening-round three-over-par 75 and is tied for third, five strokes back of Puget Sound's Jordan Hodge, the leader with a 70. Other Lutes golfers included Barrett Stamps 75, Scott Zhang 82, Hans Stegemoeller 83, Daron Casey 85, Kevin Englund 86 and Auston Hilkin 87.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Monday.
