McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Kyle Spitzer shot a 36-hole score of 153 to lead the Pacific Lutheran men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Linfield Invitational held Saturday and Sunday at Michelbook Golf Club.

After an opening round 78, Spitzer came in with a 75 on Sunday for his nine-over-par total. Pacific Lutheran shot rounds of 313 and 614 for a 627 total. Host Linfield College ran away with the competition, carding rounds of 290 and 292 for a six-over-par 582. Corban College was second with a 310-310-620, followed by PLU and then Oregon (658) and Concordia (664).

Linfield's Tyler Nelson was medalist with a six-under-par 138 coming on rounds of 66 and 72.

Rounding out the PLU scoring were the following: Barrett Stamps and Scott Zhang, tied for 12th at 160, Kevin Englund, tied for 15th at 161, and Auston Hilken and Daron Casey, tied for 17th at 162.

"Overall I am very pleased with our performance," said first-year PLU head coach Kris Swanson. "This was a good start to a long fall season. Once the guys get into the competitive mood I see us doing very well. They grinded both days and chose to keep fighting until the last putt went in. That's what we are working on as a team, to grind out a good round."
