Captains Announced for 2009 Season

Four senior players will serve as captains for the 2009 Pacific Lutheran University football season.

Representing the defense will be cornerback Pat Burke from Spokane and lineman Nick Edwards from Prosser, while captains from the offense include wide receiver Drew Griffin, from Vancouver, and lineman Leif Hansen, from Buckley.

All four of the players were starters during the 2008 season, and Griffin earned second team All-Northwest Conference honors as a slotback after finishing with 37 receptions for 434 yards and three touchdowns. Burke had 33 tackles and an interception and Edwards ended the season with 28 tackles and two fumble recoveries for the Lutes.

Pacific Lutheran opens its nine-game regular season schedule at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, when it hosts St. Olaf (Minn.) in a non-conference contest at Sparks Stadium.
