It is a tragedy-turned-to-triumph story that those close to the Pacific Lutheran baseball program know well, and now KING 5 TV has helped to get the word out about Max Beatty.
Just a couple of months before leading the Lutes into the 2012 season, Beatty, PLU's star pitcher, was diagnosed with cancer. Max missed all of the spring 2012 semester to focus on his cancer treatments. He was given a clean bill of health early last summer, enabling him to play summer baseball for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast Baseball League.
Max made his return to the Pacific Lutheran baseball field in Monday's home doubleheader against Concordia (Ore.). Max pitched two innings of the first game, which the Lutes won by a 4-0 score.
King 5 TV sportscaster Chris Egan was on hand to get footage of Max in his long-anticipated return.
