Linfield Builds Early Lead, Beats Pacific Lutheran
LEWISTON, Idaho - Linfield College built a 9-0 lead after four innings and cruised to a 10-4 win over Pacific Lutheran in Saturday afternoon's second round of the Inland Cellular Baseball Tournament at Lewis-Clark State College's Harris Field.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning, five more in the second, and added two in the fourth to grab a 9-0 lead. PLU starting pitcher Dan Johansen allowed seven runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings and saw his record fall to 4-4 this season.
The Lutes scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning, making the most of two hits, four walks and a wild pitch. The first run scored on a wild pitch, Ryan Aratani drew a bases-loaded walk, and Ryan Frost drove in two more with a single.
Pacific Lutheran managed just five hits, two by Frost, while Linfield had 10 hits.
In losing to Linfield for the fourth time in the last week, the Lutes fell to 19-19 overall. They conclude their season at 2 p.m. Sunday with a game against tournament host Lewis-Clark State.
