Pacific Lutheran baseball players Josh Takayoshi and Trey Watt have earned all-league honors for their outstanding performances this summer in the amateur West Coast League.
Takayoshi (Puyallup, Wash. / Emerald Ridge HS) earned first team all-league honors as an outfielder after helping the Wenatchee AppleSox to a sweep of the Corvallis Knights in the league championship game. Takayoshi, who hit .318 during the regular season, finished with three hits in the deciding 4-2 victory. Takayoshi is one of only three first team All-WCL picks who do not play their collegiate baseball for a NCAA Division I program.
Trey Watt (Tualatin, Ore. / Tualatin HS) earned second team honors as a starting pitcher after compiling a 6-3 record and a paltry 1.43 earned run average while pitching for the Kitsap BlueJackets. Watt held opponents to a .212 batting average.
Both Takayoshi and Watt earned 2009 first team All-Northwest Conference honors after helping lead the Lutes to a conference co-championship and a 31-9 overall record.
"It is quite an accomplishment for both Josh and Trey to be named to the all-league rosters in the WCL," said PLU head coach Geoff Loomis. "It really speaks to the type of players we've enjoyed having on our roster here at PLU. Josh and Trey are outstanding baseball players, but more importantly, they are great people and represented our community very well in their respective cities this summer."
