Rice Named Strength & Conditioning Coach

Chris Rice has been named Strength & Conditioning coach and Names Fitness Center coordinator at Pacific Lutheran University, athletic director Laurie Turner announced today.

In addition to those duties, Rice will also serve as a track & field assistant coach.

"We are happy to welcome Chris to Pacific Lutheran University," Turner said in making the announcement. "His experience in running a fitness center, combined with his energy and commitment to continuing a quality strength and conditioning program already in place, should serve our students well."

Rice earned an undergraduate degree in health promotion and wellness from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and later received his master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Most recently, Rice was a fitness operations team leader at Adventure 212 Fitness in Stevens Point, Wis.  There, he supervised a 31-member part-time staff and coordinated all areas relating to adult fitness, personal training and group fitness at the 40,000-square foot facility. Prior to that, for two years he was a fitness and recreation coordinator at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, supervising the daily operation of a 2,200-member fitness facility.

While earning his master's degree at Texas-El Paso, Rice was a kinesiology instructor and teaching assistant, and also a graduate assistant strength coach.

Rice replaces Chris Wood, who left PLU in June to become the women's track & field head coach and strength & conditioning coach at Husson College in Maine.
