Gluing and Sewing on the New Artificial Turf Field
Who would have known? The lines you will see on Pacific Lutheran University's new artificial turf field are, it turns out, glued into the field, and the sections of turf are sewn together.
PLU photographer John Froschauer has been documenting the construction in the area that used to be part or all of holes 5 through 9 on University Golf Course. John's most recent images can been seen by clicking here.
Construction of the artificial field is expected to be finished in time for fall athletic competition. The grass field will be seeded and will not be used this fall in order to allow the grass to grow.
In addition to fall sports practices, among the first activities on the new artificial turf field will be the men's soccer alumni game (Sunday, Aug. 19), and football's annual intrasquad scrimmage (Saturday, Sept. 1), which will be followed by an alumni flag football game. For information on the men's soccer alumni game, contact head coach John Yorke at email@example.com, and for more information on the football activities, contact head coach Scott Westering at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Final cost of the field construction is expected to be approximately $3.5 million.
