Tracy Goehri, Women's Basketball

Senior
Post
Spokane, Wash.
Central Valley HS

Tracy Goehri has been a bright spot for the PLU women's basketball team this season. The 6-0 post from Spokane is among the leading scorers in Northwest Conference games during this, her senior season.

Describe your family.  How have they helped you in your athletic career?
My family is amazing. They have always been there for me and supported me from my basketball career to whatever else I choose to do. They are always there to keep me on my feet and going in the right direction. I would be lost without them and mean so much to me. In basketball they are always there to support me and of course voice their opinions to help me! I am so grateful that my mom and dad were able to play a large role in my basketball career and paying for and giving me the option to go to camps and different basketball leagues. They love hearing about my games and practices that I've had and I keep them involved. They don't get to go to all the games because it is quite a drive from Spokane to get over here every weekend. They did get to fly down to California and see our tournament and our family that is down there. My sister and brother have also supported me. My sister has always been there for me and at my games cheering me on. Whenever I was shooting and practicing outside my brother and sister would always come out and help me and they gave me someone to play one-on-one with.

Describe any hardships or extenuating circumstances that you have faced to get to where you are today.
Everyone has their ups and downs in life that shapes them into who they are today. Different hardships that I've had to go through are the loss of my aunt when I was in high school and the loss of my grandpa a few years ago. Both of these losses were very hard for me but it made me realize to not take things or people for granted. I treasure my family more than ever and am so grateful for them and all that they do for me. I try to make sure that my friends and family know how much they mean to me and that I really do appreciate them and hope that they know that I am there for them.

What factors led to your decision to attend PLU?
When I was looking at different colleges to go to I knew that I wanted to play sports at the college level, I just didn't know if I wanted to play basketball or do track. I was deciding between PLU and University of Hawaii as my last two schools. Everyone wonders why I stayed here instead of going to Hawaii where the weather is always nice. The reason why I stayed in Washington was because I was able to do both basketball and track here if I wanted to and it was closer to home. I never ended up doing track but I am so glad that I decided to come here and play basketball.

Have you studied abroad?  If so, describe your experiences?
I haven't traveled abroad and wish I could. I think that it is an awesome experience that is offered here. I would like to travel after I graduate this year and would like to see the rest of the world. Places that I would really like to go see is Greece, Australia, Italy, and Germany.

What has been your favorite class at PLU?
I don't really have one favorite class; overall my marketing classes are my favorite. This is good because I am business marketing major, but in general these classes are the ones that I enjoy the most. Another class that I really enjoyed was the volleyball P.E. class. I used to play volleyball in high school and never get the chance to play anymore, so this was a nice way to play a few times a week.

Have you had any trouble balancing athletics with academics?
I have been doing sports since I was in elementary school. As athletics and academics have both become more demanding from junior high to high school to PLU I have had to make changes and become better at time management. I think that everyone has to make big study changes when you come into college. I just needed to change and become better with my time because basketball and academics were more demanding than ever.

What are your plans after college?
After college I am hoping to get a marketing job or internship. I would like to move to Arizona for a few years and hopefully find a job down there, but right now I would take a good job where I can get one.

When your athletic career is all said and done, what is it that you would want people to say about you?
I would want people to say that I gave my all, all of the time. I would like to be said that I was a good teammate and friend. Also, that I was someone that my team could depend on, on the court and off the court.

Describe your hometown and what you miss about it the most.
I miss my family and friends in Spokane. I still have a lot of friends that live in Spokane and that I love to visit. I also have a lot of family in Spokane and it is nice when I get to go home and spend time with them all.

What's your favorite spot on campus?
Olson, whether playing basketball there or watching it is a great escape from classes and homework.

What is your favorite restaurant in Tacoma?
Samurai's in Spanaway.

What music is playing in your ipod right now?
Right now, because I am trying to relax and do homework, is country music. I have always loved and listened to country music since I was little!
