TACOMA, Wash. - It may be Valentine's Day but there will be no love lost on the hardwood tonight when Pacific Lutheran University hosts crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound in a doubleheader inside Olson Gymnasium.
The Battle of the South Sound rivalry between the two Northwest Conference foes begins at 6 p.m. with the women's game while the men follow at 8 p.m. The Lutes and Loggers have battled 11 times across all sports in NWC play in 2016-2017 with Pacific Lutheran enjoying a 6-4-1 edge in those encounters. The two institutions last met in the sport of swimming with the Lute women collecting a dominating 197-46 victory while the PLU men cruised to a 168-74 win.
Tuesday's clashes won't be the only games between the two Tacoma universities this week with the Lutes and the Loggers meeting on the baseball diamond on Saturday and Sunday to open Northwest Conference play. The two squads play a twinbill on Saturday at UPS beginning at 11 a.m. with the series closing with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
